At the top of the clients’ wishlist for their kitchen was, it turns out, a second kitchen! Alternatively referred to as a dirty kitchen, butler’s pantry, or scullery, this was meant to be their real day-to-day workspace while the main kitchen would serve as a place to gather and prepare meals in more of a party or family setting. Let’s dive in.
The before: a fairly standard marble tile bath with a console sink. The dining room had been converted into a main-floor guest suite and this was its adjoining bathroom.
After: we wrapped the entire space in cabinetry to match the main kitchen but warmed it up for a more casual feel by introducing stained open shelving and a matching Putnam ladder. Another column refrigerator by Miele sits in the far right corner. Pendants by Rejuvenation recall the main kitchen lighting but are scaled down in size and design.
Also on the clients’ wishlist were a pair of copper sinks—these from Rohl—which reflect a warm amber glow into the space. A Miele range is tucked into the corner with a plaster hood above.
Hardware by Classic Brass matches that in the main kitchen and a stained butcher’s block countertop softens the space against the abundant marble.
